Now that we are in the growing season, it's time to make sure you are mowing correctly to get the best results for your lawn.
Did you know....?
Proper mowing is an important practice in maintaining a desirable lawn. Even if all other practices are performed correctly, the lawn will suffer if mowed improperly. Critical factors include the height of cut, frequency of mowing, and maintenance of mowing equipment.
What are the best mowing practices?
Height of cut: St. Augustinegrass should be cut to 2 1/2 to 3 inches. Bermuda grass and a few other grasses perform better at lower cutting heights.
Frequency: Grass should be mowed frequently so that no more than one-third of the grass blade is removed.
Mower Maintenance: Mower blades require frequent sharpening and balancing. A dull mower blade will shred the grass blades, producing a poor appearance. The mower wheels should be checked for correct height for a level cut.
